Hi ! I’m Alizée from Belgium.  I undertook a fifteen-week internship at never@home and what a great experience it was!

My internship taught me more than I could have imagined. At first, the biggest challenge for me was communicating directly to guests because English is not my mother tongue.

But the never@home crew gave me encouragement and support; that allowed me to have confidence in my abilities, especially when talking with guests. I learnt a lot and adapted to the never@home life very well. Over the weeks, I developed friendships with my co-workers. Working at a friendly, busy hostel also allowed me to meet people from all over the world.

I will always keep a happy memory of my time there. I particularly enjoyed working during Wednesday Braai night with the Bar Staff (this might have something to do with the tasty garlic breads!). Had great fun during the many cooking classes with the Kitchen Crew and had many enjoyable times with the Reception Crew. Not forgetting the memories shared with both the Hostel Management Team and the Housekeeping Crew!

The weekly hike with Phil was great for getting out there and seeing the stunning Cape Town sights. I will always remember the ‘Devils Peak Trail’ I hiked with the group only a few days after I arrived. I also participated in many fun and exciting educational trips, including wine tasting and seal snorkeling. My memories of Cape Town will certainly stay with me forever!

I would advise everyone to take the opportunity and do an internship at never@home as it is truly a rewarding experience.

Thank you to the crew for having me. Until next time…
