This week was an emotional one as we waved goodbye our last iXperience guest staying at the hostel. never@home was the home to over 250 iXperience students during their time in Cape Town this winter (see previous blog on iX to learn more about them) and what a winter it has been!
It was EPIC having these guys stay at the hostel and these past few months will certainly be kept in our memory bank. The Randy Warthog, will definitely miss their boundless enthusiasm and energy during events nights and we will stock up on Hand Grenade’s (which includes a shot of tequila and jagermeister – we dare you to try one!) so we have plenty ready and waiting for their return next year. They absolutely loved them!
Our friendly crew got to know all the iXperience guests very well during their stay at never@home so it is only right we share with you their highlights, travel tips and funniest moments in Cape Town.
Firstly, let us introduce you to ….
and lastly Vera!
One of our crew members, Phil, asked this lovely bunch few questions and this was what they responded!
What is your favourite thing to do in Cape Town?
Pedro – The township experience to Khayelitsha. It was really interesting and moving to experience and witness such a different way of life to the one I am used to.
Stephanie – I loved to visit the Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock for food and to chill at one of the beautiful Clifton beaches.
Andrew – The Cape Point Tour (penguins!), Sunset Cruise, and the Cape of Good Hope is beautiful!
Vera – All of the small markets – I love the food and lots of jewelry shopping.
Where would you recommend to eat in Cape Town?
Pedro – Haku… I loved their chocolate fondant!
Stephanie – Kloof Street House for cocktails and food and Bombay Bicycle club for the vibe and Clarks for brunch
Andrew – Kloof street House as I love the veal dish with a Porn Star cocktail, also El Burro Taqueria on Kloof… in fact all the restaurants on Kloof street are amazing.
Vera – Test Kitchen – 12 courses, 5 hours of fantastic deliciousness! Every single bite is different…
In your opinion what is the best thing to do in Green Point (where n@h is located)?
Pedro – Jog/ walk/ stroll on the promenade.
Stephanie – Chilling in Green Point Park.
Andrew – I loved to walk from the hostel to the V&A waterfront and then all the way to the end of the promenade in Sea point.
Vera – Cycling on the promenade.
What was your funniest moment during your stay?
Pedro – Too much to mention….
Stephanie – Stumbling upon the nudist beach at Clifton and getting an unexpected eyeful!
Andrew – It has to be when we went hiking up Skeleton Gorge. I looked up and saw Adele soaking wet (from the waterfall) and hanging off a rock!
Vera – A spontaneous tattoo I got when with a certain member of staff!
Did you find any lekker, secret places to visit in Cape Town? We won’t tell anyone …..
Pedro – The Secret Sunrise. So you register on Facebook and then they send you the place to meet the day before. I did yoga followed by a silent disco. An awesome way to start the day!!!
Stephanie – Outrage of Modesty cocktail bar – try the ‘Hot n Cold’, I dare you!
Andrew – hhhmmmmm
Vera – Wally’s Cave for incredible photos <3
Best memory during your time in SA?

Stephanie – the 3 day Garden route tour was immense – bungee jumping, walking with elephants, cheetah petting, ostrich riding, lemur cuddling and night time canoeing.
Andrew – There is always something new and exciting to do here, from beaches to parks to mountains to safari’s.
Vera – Skydiving by far!
Finally what did you like best about never@home?
Pedro – Phil, and God bless the bean bags!
Stephanie – It has hanging out with my buddies Rachel, Isabel and Emma every day in a chilled ambiance and the community spirit at the hostel is awesome!
