On my recent adventure, I embarked on an African experience to the beautiful Mother city. With its unique culture, experiences, cuisine, people and energy, it is one of the most iconic cities in the world. The energy level of people here is unmatchable!
The main reason of my visit was my internship which flew by way too quickly. In total, I stayed in Cape Town for 6 months. I got the privilege to do my internship at Never@Home, which was the best decision I could’ve ever made. The entire team welcomed me with open arms and gave me a home away from home. It was the perfect environment to grow and develop my skills. They gave me the opportunity to make mistakes and learn from them. I worked in a professional yet fun team.
I also got the chance to go on several tours that the hostel offers at their travel desk. I’ve seen whales went on a beautiful wine tour in Stellenbosch and did the infamous garden route. The beautiful scenic drive was breath taking and to my own surprise I bungee jumped from one of the highest bridges in the world. Even though it was awesome to go on these tours, one of my best memories was the staff party. All the staff members went on a big red bus and on route to signal hill we stopped to play several fun games. I can honestly say that I’ve never had so much laughter in one day in my life!
I noticed quite early one that it is almost impossible to plan an itinerary of all the tons of activities that I wanted to do. I realized that the beauty of Cape Town is in just going with the flow and doing whatever comes up. Which makes it equally exiting as frightening. As someone that is currently living in a western country where everything is planned and structured. I accepted the fact that I was on this adventure where I would have to embrace this unique yet beautiful culture. This made my experience in Cape Town even better, it literally began to feel like my second home. I met so many lovely people that made my experience even better. Going to Afropunk in Johannesburg with all of my friends is also one of the memories on top of my list. I can literally go on and on about all the great memories I made, but don’t worry I won’t bother you with all of them. Of course, I will leave some things for your own imagination and experience.
Honestly if never@home had not taken this crazy intern, I would have never gotten the opportunity to have one of the best experiences of my life. I’m also very grateful for the acknowledgement of Employee of the Month and for their guidance they gave me on my journey.
My experience in Cape Town will be a memory that I will cherish forever and I highly recommend others to intern at this awesome hostel!
