Our winner this month goes to everyone’s favourite intern from Holland, Synty Heyningen! We don’t often offer our Crew Member of the Month award to our interns, simply because they only tend to be with us for a short amount of time. But with Synty’s extremely friendly nature, infectious smile and enthusiasm, it would have been bonkers not to award her for all her effort and hard work at the hostel.
And just for you guys, here is a little bit more about Synty and what she has loved so far in Cape Town:
What encouraged you to travel to Cape Town for the first time?
First of all Cape Town has been nominated as one of the top travel destinations by a wide range of reputable travel magazines. Since I am studying tourism I thought this would be an achievement that will look good on my CV. Besides that Cape Town was the number one spot on my wanderlust list. So when I got the opportunity to do my internship abroad I did not have to think twice. Cape Town has so much to offer: stunning scenery, great lifestyle, delicious food, lovely people and the easy pace of life and mix of cultures attracts many people from around the world.
How did you find out about never@home?
Through an organization called Masambeni they coordinate internship and placement for students in SA.
What are your top 3 things to do in Cape Town?
Go to live music performances
What is your favourite dish at the Randy?
Chicken burger, without PESTO ?
Aside from the Randy Warthog (of course), where else do you like to eat and/or drink in Cape Town?
Nando’s because you can never go wrong with chicken and we don’t have Nando’s in the Netherlands. Also I think everyone knows by now that I Loveee chicken.
If you were a cartoon character who would you be? And why?
Not really into cartoon characters, so I’m just going to say Cat Woman, basically the only female cartoon character I know. Now that I’m thinking about it not sure if she is even a cartoon character haha
If you could only take one item on holiday with you, what would it be? And why?
Probably my credit card, because I can by all the other items I would need when going on a holiday.
Besides Cape Town where is your next favourite place to visit in Africa?
Right now Joburg because I’m going to have an epic time at Afropunk!
