With jingle bells jingling in the air and the hostel full to the brim with festive guests, it is safe to say that we had a pretty busy December. However despite it was a busy month, we were still able to squeeze in a whole lot of fun! We would like to take this opportunity to thank the never@home dream team for all their hard work, not only for the month of December but for the whole of 2016. You guys rock!

Here are a few of our personal highlights from last year:

After a bit of reminicing it is time for us to finally reveal our Crew Member of the Month for the month of December 2016 as non other than Thami Khumalo!  Thami has been a crucial member of the never@home crew since October 2016. From the get go Thami has shown great potential and over the past three months has grown from a Receptionist to Reception Supervisor. Thami is real team player with a great understanding of service delivery and we are super glad that he has received this award.

We asked Thami a few questions about himself and his time in Cape Town. We hope you enjoy his answers:

What encouraged you to travel to Cape Town for the first time?

After traveling a bit outside of South Africa I realised that I really haven’t seen my own backyard and then decided to visit Cape town to see a different province since I am from Kwa-Zulu Natal.

How did you find out about never@home?

I was visiting Cape town for the first time to see what the city was about and to kind of check it out if I would consider a move here. Whilst looking for accommodation for the two week visit, I came across never@home then decided it’s a place I’d love to return to when I move here.

What are your top 3 things to do in Cape Town?

    1. Hiking up lion’s head to enjoy the sunset (make sure you bring some snacks)
    2. Biking along the promenade and even making it as far as Camps bay (breath-taking views)
    3. Visiting the Old Biscuit Mill. I enjoy the whole scene of the market and just hanging out there with friends or showing guests around that area.

What is your favourite dish at the Randy?

It’s got to be the ABC (Avocado, Bacon and Cheese) burger.

Aside from the Randy Warthog (of course), where else do you like to eat and/or drink in Cape Town?

The Village Idiot on Loop street. I love the atmosphere, the food and the story behind their name is sure to get you laughing.

If you could only take one item on holiday with you, what would it be? And why?

My Camera. Some people like to write about their adventures, I love to capture those moments through pictures and tell stories about the places I visit.

Besides Cape Town where is your next favourite place to visit in Africa?

So far it has to be the Drakensburg! The drive alone draws you in before you summit those peaks to enjoy the views.
