On Mandela Day (18 July), people around the world are encouraged to spend at least 67 minutes doing something positive for their communities in honour of the 67 years that the late South African president Nelson Mandela spent fighting for social justice and a free, democratic country.
Celebrated each year on the same day as Mandela’s birthday, International Nelson Mandela Day aims to inspire communities around the world to come together and take part in good deeds for their communities/others. With the ultimate aim being to encourage individuals, communities, governments and non-profit organisations to work together to make a positive imprint.
This is the forth Mandela Day since the global icon passed, and since he’s no longer around to anchor the occasion, it’s more important than ever for us to respect and to share his message for peace and humanity with future generations.
In order to convey this important message to others the well known and respected tour guide Juma, has put together a day in Cape Town where we can come together to give something back to the community.
Juma has been giving tours of his neighborhood since 2012 and is popular for his Woodstock Street Art Tours in Cape Town. He believes that colorful streets are like walking in the light. “We paint to inspire ourselves so as to inspire others,” says Juma about the movement that has put Woodstock on the map.
And this Mandela Day you will get the opportunity to give back to the community by spending 67 minutes with Juma and his team to help create organic home gardens and to paint murals of Mandela.
