The Cape Town Cycle Tour is one of the most anticipated sporting events in Cape Town. Renowned across the globe for being the largest, timed cycling event in the world. And with this in mind it just keeps getting bigger and better each and every year, with approximately 35 000 cyclists from all walks of life coming together this year to compete for a title that is one of the most coveted in the cycling world!
A Route with a view
The 109km route will test the toughest and is all done for a great course, with Pedal Power Association (PPA) and Rotary Club of Claremont being the main beneficiaries of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, it’s so great to see the city being involved in something that is of value to the lives of many people.
The route is the same as usual, taking cyclists from the city centre, down the M3 through to Muizenberg and as far south as Smitswinkel. From there they will then head north again, through Hout Bay and Camps Bay to the finish line in Green Point.
To celebrate 40 years (yes, that’s right 4 0!) of the Cape Town Cycle Tour, they will be profiling some of the riders – from the pros to the average Joes – and sharing their stories. Read some of their incredible stories HERE
After Green Point being the host location at the stadium for Ultra Festival last weekend, we are once again chuffed that we will be within only a few meters from the finish line. So be sure to put Sunday the 12th of March into your calendars and come watch these incredible athletes finish their race, not forgetting to pop into the Randy for a nice cold one after!
Our Favourite Argus Story
Here’s a small insert of a story of a cyclist and how he managed to get into cycling in a township (where it’s not the most popular sport). This short clip will give you a glimpse into the frenzy you can expect when you are at the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
