Captain Jacks is one of the best companies for ocean adventures in Hout Bay! Operating out of the famous Hout Bay harbour, guests will be surprised that the astonishing sea life they will get to witness during one of these epic boat trips.

So let us waste no time in filling you guys in…..

The concept of Captain Jack’s was born a number of years ago, from the need to have a fast boat on the water, available immediately, to take people out on the water without delay and back in a timely fashion.

They recognised the need to be informed when wildlife visits the stunning bay, and then get out on the water to see them. There is nothing more exciting than seeing real wildlife in one of the most stunning bays in the world!

The bay often has visitors from whales, dolphin and seals! Many tourists do not even know that they are here and even when they do, before Captain Jacks, there was not always someone around (with the correct licenses and with a boat on the water) ready to go…

Captain Jacks have changed all of this and with their experience team and high powered boats you get out there immediately to witness the stunning sea life. Which we think is pretty phenomenal!

Captain Jacks offer many once in a lifetime adventures. Here are a few of our personal favourites….

Boat Trips

Choose from a slow cruise or adrenaline adventure!

Captain Jacks boat rides are unique and can be tailored to your needs. Lasting 30 minutes to 1 hour.  They take you on a  cruise through the Harbour area and around the Bay, stopping at all the scenic spots along the way.  They exit the Bay towards Noordhoek, where you will view the highest point of Chapman’s Peak and Slangkop Lighthouse in the distance.  The ride will then take you across towards Llandudno, going as far as Sandy Bay.

Here are the types of boat rides that they offer:

  • 30 minute Boat Trip
  • 1 hour Boat Trip
  • Whale and Dolphin Watching
  • Scenic Harbour with Seal Island
  • Seal Island Trip

Boat based whale watching for an experience of a lifetime…

Dolphins regularly visit Bay to feed and frolic. Between June and November of each year, the Southern Right Whale passes through the waters in Hout Bay, journeying from the Cold Antarctica to calve in the warm waters around Cape Town.

The Humpback Whale also passes through, en-route to breed and calve in Mozambique and Madagascar. Bryde Whales occasionally make an appearance as well.

This trip gives you the opportunity to view them for yourselves!

Meet the cutest creatures in the ocean.

Snorkeling with the Cape Fur Seal is a popular activity.  All gear and equipment is provided on the day.  Trips happen twice a day, morning and afternoon, weather dependent.
