This months Hidden Gem is a new kid on the block and we want you all to know about it! So let’s not beat around the bush and simply tell you that this awesome gem is non other than the AWESOME new museum – Zeitz MOCCA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa)!
So let us start with the building itself as it really is an architectural masterpiece filled with African culture. The building used to be an old grain silo, built in the 1920s, and was once the tallest building in Sub-Saharan Africa. It has since been redesigned and set to become another great landmark of Cape Town. We mean, just look at it……..
And on the inside? Well let us just say that you will find yourself spending just as much time admiring the converted concrete, steel and glass interior as you will the artwork itself! The views from the contemporary lifts are so awesome you might just find yourself whizzing up and down in them just for fun. But let us remember that their main purpose of these slick lifts is to take you to the MANY different floors of the museum.
Zeitz MOCAA houses the largest collection of contemporary African art on the continent and is the only museum of its kind in Africa. Inside you will find preserved, well researched and cutting edge contemporary art from Africa. You will also find exhibitions not only from Africa but from all around the world…
