Another year has passed and never@home turned another year older this month. At the ripe age of 2, we are now older and wiser. We celebrated last week with a crew scavenger hunt and then had an epic braai (South African for BBQ) and PAR-TAY! Here are the ladies showing the lads how its done, even the bossman, Gareth Davey, was impressed with their lekker skills ….

We would like to thank all of the never@home crew for another incredible year. You all do an awesome job at creating a welcoming home for our guests and the hostel wouldn’t be the hostel is has become over the past two years without you.
This being said there can only be one winner for Crew Member of the Year. This year the worthy title goes to our hard working crew member who works the night shift on our friendly reception desk. Now we have you all on the edge of your seats it might just be the perfect moment to reveal the winner as being none other than our man with a plan – James Chiware!
James has been with the hostel since the start of the business in 2014. James is a dedicated, honest and friendly crew member who goes above and beyond for the hostel and our guests. When tired guests arrive at the hostel late at night after a long flight and can barely string a sentence together after a long flight and jet lag, James will ensure that they checked into the hostel in a professional and friendly manner.
Here is the moment Gareth revealed James as the 2016 winner of this worthy title at the staff party…
So we have asked James a few questions about himself, the hostel and Cape Town so that you are able to get know him a little better. And this was his response:
1) What encouraged you to travel to Cape Town for the first time?
The fact that Cape Town is beautiful as a tourism resort and for better opportunities to improve my life drove me to this city.
2) How did you find out about never@home
I found out about never@home when I was working for Hotel Graeme. When the building turned into never@home I was inspired to stay as I enjoyed the company of the crew. I also enjoy interacting with people from other countries.
3) What are your top 3 things to do in Cape Town?
1) Work hard and become a better person.
2) Do community work and give something back to charity.
3) Boat cruising
4) What is your favourite dish at the Randy?
I love Randy’s fullhouse for breakfast and the Durban beef curry and rice for dinner
5) Aside from the Randy Warthog (of course), where else do you like to eat and/or drink in Cape Town?
I love to go to Mzoli’s Meat because I like braai meat and pap. The atmosphere also makes you forget about all your worries. Everyone is there to have a good time. The place unites people from lots of different countries so you are able to meet a variety of people here.
6) If you were a cartoon character who would you be? And why?
I would be Jerry because he is too clever! No matter how much Tom tries to chase and catch his, Jerry always manages to get away and what he wants.
7) If you could only take one item on holiday with you, what would it be? And why?
I would take a Bible because is inspires and motivates me, especially if I am stressed or depressed.
8) Besides Cape Town where is your next favourite place to visit in Africa?
I would visit Congo. I would like to see gorillas and experience the way in which the live and behave in the wild.
We hope that you enjoyed learning a little more about our employee of the year, make sure you say “hi” when you see him about the hostel during your stay!
